Explorer RV Club National Rally 2016
It was a great start to the summer camping season!
The Explorer RV Club National Rally was held at Happy Green Acres Tent and Trailer Park, near Brockville, from June 16 to June 19. Almost half the attendees came in the day before so we got an early start socializing! At night, we had a campfire with S’mores, compliments of Maureen Flynn and Paul Hynds and their propane campfire. Ted Lloyd played guitar and sang, and Maureen had some anecdotes that keep us entertained until the mosquitoes sent us inside! Thanks Ted and Maureen!
By Thursday afternoon, grab bags were filled, tables and chairs were set up, and decorating was done. Registration took place after lunch. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. Then the feast began! Our potluck dinner was unbelievable! What a spread, with lots to spare. After clean up, Ted entertained us in the hall, away from the mosquitoes this time! A few people played the Pretty Stick, sang, and played harmonica.
Friday we rode busses to Rockport and boarded a boat for a luncheon cruise. Our group filled the dining room so that was really nice, and we could look out at the beautiful homes and cottages including Boldt Castle, as we toured the St. Lawrence. The food was excellent, and there was plenty of it!
We set up the Silent Auction for Cancer before dinner and the bidding began! Dinner was catered by In Your Element Chef & Catering Services, and it was exceptional. Following dinner, Joe Pendon taught some dance moves. It was great to see people up dancing! The Silent Auction closed, some slowly made their way back to their units, and others danced and chatted for a while.
On Saturday morning, Joe held a dynamic stretch and yoga class for the early birds. What a great way to start the day. Thanks Joe for teaching dancing, and the morning stretch!
Next on the agenda was a coffee break! Thank you Sanderson Travel Insurance for sponsoring our coffee break before the seminar.
Carl, the service manager at 1000 Islands RV in Gananoque, presented the seminar on roof care. Carl was very knowledgeable and after his talk, he answered all our questions, and they weren’t just about roofs! Thanks Carl.
A craft was offered after lunch and various outdoor games were played all afternoon. It was a little warm but attendance was great. Thanks to those who headed up the games!
In Your Element again catered dinner, and it was scrumptious! Then the music began! Our disc jockey, Willie Wright, had every type of music you could want, and many got up on the dance floor. Thanks Wayfarer Insurance for sponsoring our entertainment. The theme was Black and White and everyone participated, so all you could see that night was black and white!
The winner of the barbecue was Louise Schaeffer, and the 50/50 draw was Wendy Laprise.
In total, we raised $900 for cancer! Thank you everyone!
Sunday morning, In Your Element catered a sumptuous breakfast. Following that, some said their goodbyes and left, while some stayed another night.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out during the rally! From filling grab bags to setting up chairs and tables, decorating twice, looking after games, selling tickets, looking after the Silent Auction, helping with the pot luck and coffee break, tear down and anything else that I forgot, we really couldn’t have a rally without your help!
Thanks also to Henry Boer of 1000 Islands RV who supplied a trailer for our use, brought a parts trailer for the weekend, and sent Carl to present the seminar!
Thanks to Aviva Canada, Boss Technology, Brockville Tourism, Campkin’s RV Centre, Lant Insurance, Lowe-Martin Group, Peggi MacDonald, Road Canada, Sanderson Insurance and Wayfarer Insurance for providing items for our silent auction and our grab bags! We really appreciate your continued support.
Enjoy the summer camping season!
